Security Checkpoint Expansion

As passenger volume grows, the airport continues to benefit from the Passenger Security Checkpoint Expansion, which opened in 2020. This project expanded the existing passenger bridge over South Cicero Avenue from 50 feet to 400 feet, which increased the queuing area to 80,000 square feet. The upgrade provides a streamlined, single checkpoint area, eight-times wider than the previous security hall, and includes 17 operational screening lanes that doubles passenger throughput from 2,500 to 5,000 passengers per hour, with room for future expansion. The checkpoint and screening technology minimizes wait times, even as passenger volumes continue to grow. Additionally, the expansion’s reconfiguration of the security area reallocated approximately 18,000 square feet of existing space that is now available for concessions redevelopment.
